The fourth type of prayer is intercession. The Greek meaning is ‘prayer with a set meeting time, place, and purpose’. It means ‘to mediate and stand in for something or someone’. The Hebrew word ‘paga’ is used 84 times in the Old Testament. It means ‘to pray, to intervene, to mediate as a judge, to come between two parties’. 1 Samuel 2:25, “If one man wrongs another, God will mediate for him; but if a man wrongs the Lord, who shall intercede for him?” When you’re an intercessor you come and get in between. Jesus is our mediator and He is forever interceding on our behalf. He got in between the wrath of God and the judgment of your sin and he stood in the middle. Aren’t you glad?
He could have judged you and sent you to Hell, but Jesus stepped in the middle. He is that wall of partition. Intercession is when you take on the nature of God, and you begin to get in the middle between something. When you get in the middle of Satan trying to destroy somebody on drugs, you become that intercessor. You begin to struggle to bring life out of the death. When you step into interceding for a marriage that’s getting ready to be destroyed, and you grab hold of the marriage and grab hold of God, you’re in the middle like Samson. You’re pulling on that thing till you join it back together, because we are reconcilers.
I’ll talk a little more on intercession, and then we’ll move on and I’ll give you a piece on prayer, fasting and harvest. We’ll take these three pieces and put them together.
