We Need an Enemy

Israel had some major enemies to face in the pursuit of their promises in the Bible, and even to this day. You’re going to change your prayer life because, when you start praying against your enemy, you’re fighting against a brick wall. You need to know what to pray when the enemy comes. James says that when the enemy comes you resist the devil and he flees. We all know that. It doesn’t say that you defeated him. It just says you resist him. So, you can resist, you can bind, you can do a lot of things against the enemies that come in your life. Look! Some enemies might be sitting beside you. Some enemies aren’t going to come dressed in a red suit with a pitch fork. Some enemies look just like you. It’s amazing! Mirror, mirror on the wall… You know, somebody wrote a book and then they made a movie out of it… “Sleeping With the Enemy”. Some of you woke up with him this morning. It’s so true. Your flesh is an enemy.
Let’s go to Judges 3. That’s kind of where the whole thing comes out of.  Verse one says, “Now these are the nations which the Lord left to prove Israel by them…” (AMP)  The NIV says, “These are the nations the Lord left to test all those Israelites who had not experienced any of the wars in Canaan. He did this only to teach warfare to the descendants of the Israelites who had not had previous battle experience.” That’s heavy! God left them to teach another generation how to war.

I hear people saying things that don’t make any biblical sense. They’re prophesying, “We’re going to destroy the devil. He’s not going to be able to work.” Ok, you might mess his plan up for a day, but he’s a spirit. He doesn’t disappear. You’ve got to understand… The other devils that you have to deal with, remember, you live with them! We have to come to the conclusion, “We ain’t getting rid of them!” I don’t want to live with them. I don’t want to tolerate them. I don’t want to welcome them. So, what do I have to do? To all the descendants of Israel who had not previously had battle experience, God said, “I’m gonna teach you how to fight. I’m gonna teach you how to do warfare in the realm of the Spirit.” And, that’s what we have to do!
