Demonstrating the Gospel

Let’s look at 1 Corinthians 2:1-5, today. Paul is writing a letter to the church at Corinth. The church of Corinth have a move of God, but they have gone off in areas of misinformation, and in doing things incorrectly. Paul is writing this letter to correct the church. The opening part of his letter is in the first chapter. Then, he begins to make a couple of statements in the second chapter. “And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.” The Apostle Paul was making the statement that his preaching is hollow without power.

Today, we have a tendency to emphasize the preaching while forgetting the power. We have a tendency to emphasize the excellence of speech. I’m not against speaking excellently, but I am in favor of the power of God. And, I am in favor of miracles and divine interventions, and the God of the universe stepping here, in this house, and touching and healing broken bodies, and delivering souls that are suffering. I want God to actually come in such a way that you no longer question the existence of Him, but you’re really trying to find out how you can serve Him.

I believe we are in a day of Elijah’s. Just like Elijah, who defeated the prophets of Baal on Mt. Carmel. I believe, just like John the Baptist, who Jesus called Elijah, there are Elijah’s, today, who are called to prepare the way for the Lord. Not simply for his return, but for his revealing and his uncovering in the earth. Many see Jesus just as a source of wisdom, but have never experienced the power of God. We will never see an outpouring of God, like we should, unless we make up our minds to be demonstrators of his power. What I mean by that statement is, you understand that the truth you know is the truth you must show. And, that the power you are experiencing is the power that you need to be released. We need to understand that God wants to use us. He doesn’t just want to use the preachers. He wants to use his Body. What use is it for me to have an arm, if I don’t use it? What use is it for you to be in the body, if you find no example by which you have a means to impact a life? If we’re going to see the power of God, then the power of God will begin to manifest when we understand that we are demonstrators of the Gospel.

We are talking about seeing the power of God. The power of God will begin to manifest when we understand that we are demonstrators of the Gospel. We have been called to demonstrate the power of God. We have been called to be anointed, so that He can use us. There are far too many of us sitting on the sidelines. Oftentimes, when I get up to preach, I find myself in a position of trying to motivate a church, or motivate a group of people. It’s very easy to hide in the corner. It’s very easy to be like Elijah was, and hide in that cave. God is calling us out of the cave and into the marketplace, and into the city, and into every sphere that we operate in. We are to operate in that sphere with the power of God. His power is designed to work through us.

We must have the faith to step out of our comfort zone and see the God of miracles perform them. That comfort zone… That’s a dangerous place, but it’s such a comfortable place. The comfort zone is like a good pair of slippers, or your favorite nightshirt. Or, for you men, like that shirt you should have thrown away three years ago. The comfort zone is the place of being at ease in Zion. Bishop has been talking about generations, and the generation that’s the most likely to get in the comfort zone is my generation. Generation 4 (50-70 years old). Yeah, because we’ve seen God move and we’ve seen God heal. They say, “I’ve seen it, and now is my ‘golden years’. Now, it’s time for me to sit at ease in the church and let the young folks do it. Yeah, I’m gonna sit back and say, ‘Y’all go do it.’ ”

I’ve learned that my ‘golden years’ can be golden with Divine purpose. I just need to make up my mind that there’s another generation behind me that needs to know that their God heals. They may never have seen it, but my testimony of what God can do is enough to inspire them to want to reach for the power. Many, today, are comfortable in their religion, but I love to see the power of God. See, when I got saved, it wasn’t with religion. I got saved in power. God showed up marvelously on that June day, and by the power of God, I got delivered. I was always in depression and I was suicidal, and I got delivered in one day. Some of you have been bound in these areas for years. But, I’m telling you, in one day, one moment in time, God showed up! And, it rolled up like a scroll, never to come back down again. See, that’s what the power of God will do! The power of God! I didn’t have to go to any psychologists or psychoanalysts. I had a meeting with Jesus!
