What is in Your House? Episode 1 | March 15, 2020

What do you have in your house? In 2 Kings 4:1-7, we see the widow of prophet cry out to Elisha because the creditors were coming to take her sons to pay their debt.
History tells us that this prophet the woman is referring to is the prophet Obadiah in the Old Testament. Obadiah is a small book. Obadiah was a student of Elijah and Elisha. The Bible tells us that the wife of the son of the prophets cried to Elisha saying that her husband was dead. Elisha didn’t know that Obadiah was dead, and that fits into the narrative of the story.

“Elisha said to her, ‘What shall I do for you? Tell me, what have you of sale value in the house?’ She said, ‘Your handmaid has nothing in the house except a jar of oil.’ Then he said, ‘Go around and borrow vessels from all your neighbors, empty vessels—and not a few. And when you come in, shut the door upon you and your sons. Then pour out the oil you have into all those vessels, setting aside each one when it is full.’
