We were talking about how we need to hold on to the goodness of God because it can get away from us. We mentioned how this culture is so blinded to the things Jesus represents. Our prejudices and biases often cause us to miss the historical point of things. History is His Story. He’s the author and finisher of our faith. He’s the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. He is the history of everything that’s ever been and ever will be.
We get blinded by prejudices. We see things from a slanted or racial view. We often see things from misinformation. The Word says, “My people perish for a lack of knowledge.” A lack of understanding God’s principles and purposes make us miss the daily beauty of His creation. Let me give you a good example. You can live in a beautiful, scenic place that most of us would love to go visit. I’ve lived in places like the Caribbean, where you wake up every morning, and it’s like God just stuck his hands in big paint barrels and threw it out there, and said, “How do you like that today?” Then, by the afternoon, He erases it and says, “Wait a minute, I’ve got a better idea. How about this for the evening?” It’s as though God is delighting in painting a new picture every single day. The Bible says, “His creation does show forth the glory of God!” Everyday, all creation declares that God is good. Many of you pay to go on cruises and trips to see these beautiful, exotic places! Often, when you sit in those beautiful settings, you lose the respect for them.
When you’re married to a faithful, loving mate, you can take that mate for granted. When you sit in a church that has the glory of God on it, you can take it for granted. You can sit in America, and take it for granted, and not appreciate it. If you want to know what it’s like, come with me to Haiti, and some of the countries I’ve been to. You talk about starvation and demons manifesting. You come to America, and you know this freedom. You know this joy. You know this ability that you can come and go. And with all of that, it’s so easy to take it for granted. The goodness of God.
Bad experiences often cause us to avoid even the good ones. This is where faith comes in. Hebrews 10:19-22 talks about something so profound. Our faith is important! Verse 22 says, “Let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.” Thank God He’s cleansing us! Faith does something remarkable!
