The Power of a Testimony

Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”

That is my declarative statement. I believe that we’re in a day where the Church must be bold as a lion. Cry aloud and let the world know that we are not ashamed of the Gospel! Everything that I am and everything I’ll ever hope to be is because I met Jesus. If I’m a good husband, it’s because I met Jesus. If I’m a good father, it’s because I met Jesus. I am not ashamed of the Gospel because it’s what has transformed my life. I believe that bold speakers should speak up and testify of the goodness of their God. Those that are ashamed of the Gospel are quiet, and never speak up about the goodness or power of the God we serve. Every group we run into, today, wants to speak up and shout their cause. Well, it’s time for the Church to stand up and testify about our God, and what He will and can do.

My topic, today, is the power of a testimony. A testimony is a solemn declaration, usually made orally by a witness under oath, in response to an interrogation by a lawyer or public official. It’s a first-hand authentication of a fact. It’s evidence.

Let’s see what the scripture tells us about a testimony. Revelation 12:10, “Then I heard a loud voice saying in Heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the Kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” They overcame the enemy! They were victorious over the enemy by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony. Tell somebody, “It’s time to testify!” Say, “I’m going to testify!”

That verse talks about defeating the enemy by three weapons. They overcame by the blood of the lamb. It’s important to understand what the blood is. Leviticus 17:11, “For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.'”That’s the first weapon! There’s life in the blood! Our life is in the blood!
